Dear Maintainer, Everything was working fine (taking in account the limitations of the virtual machine) until I decided to upgrade to jessie. Then when I first restarted the virtual machine after the upgrade, the login screen didn't show. Intead I got a white screen with a sad face saying that something went wrong. I'm not really sure that its gdm3's fault but I'm reporting this bug to this package because I see some complains from gdm in the system log like "gnome-session[945]: Unrecoverable failure in required component gnome-shell.desktop". I haven't tried anything because I don't know where to start. But I can do any test thats needed, I can read any manual or document if it has some clues for solving this problem.
I forgot to include an improtant detail, I'm using QEMU 1.6.0 in a Windows 8.1 PC. You can tell by the syslog but any way I think that QEMU emulates a cirrus video card. I don't have any important information in this virual machine, this is just a test, so I can make any test that its needed to solve this or any other bug. Thanks for the great Debian operating system!
I made an experiment that someone else did in Archlinux, stoped gdm3 and started the x server alone calling "xinit". The server starts and shows a terminal. I can even call "nautilus" and it works. The first time I made the experiment it didn't work, it showed the terminal but I couldn't do anything, the virtual machine hanged when tried to move the mouse or write something, I was running qemu with this arguments: "-hda juana.img -m 256M -vga cirrus -net nic -net user -alt-grab -usb". When the test worked I was using this argumets: "-hda juana.img -m 256M -vga cirrus -net nic -net user -usbdevice mouse -usbdevice keyboard -alt-grab" Saludos!
Hi, I got one more hint for this bug. I installed KDM and it works, but only the xfce session was able to start. I also got installed Gnome and Enlightenment. I also tried to use Lightdm and it starts and shows the login prompt but it doesn't let me start any of the sessions named before. I'll use KDM for now because I got some things I want to do in this virtual machine. But I'm still interest in using GDM so I'll keep trying to solve the problem by myself. Thanks anyway!
