Hi Maintainer,

When the gnome software appear in the notification bar for the purpose of the
update system, always to force it to reboot the system.
When i do it with the apt-get, i don't restart.

Hi,

this happens due to the so called "offline updates":

https://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2012/06/04/offline-os-updates-looking-forward-to-gnome-3-6/

So that's not a bug, just a feature. ;-)

Dear Maintainer,
"Of course, we’ll still support updating applications in the session for
GNOME 3.6 (as long as they are not running) just not the core OS bits.
Comments, as always, welcome."

This suggests to me that updates to software that is not currently running
should be able to be applied without a reboot. However, this afternoon an
update came through for Google Chrome (from the official Google repo; I was not
running Chrome at the time, and all other packages were up to date), but gnome-
software would not allow me to upgrade the package without a reboot, so I was
forced to use the terminal instead. I consider this particular behaviour a bug.

This fixup was only applied to the salsa ubuntu branches.
"Add patch to disable offline updates"

The Debian bug report was closed but the change never reached Debian
thus reopening.
gnome-software: Allow offline system updates

Could it be applied to Debian (I have not tested if the patch works
with a local rebuild)?
This would allow me to upgrade deb packages from gnome-software that
would be great. I really don't want to reboot at each Sid package
update.

Cheers,
Alban
