Dear Maintainer,

I am using Vmware player version 7.1.2 build-2780323 and Virtual Box version
4.3.30. I have this weird problem while using Debian Jessie (8.1.0) as my guest
OS and I think this problem is with everybody using VMware or Virtual Box and
running Jessie as guest OS.

Problem: Instead of proper splash screen at boot log time, three squares are
displayed in centre of screen
Description: While I configure my Debian Jessie OS to show Plymouth Splash
screen on bootup, It should show plymouth splash screen while bootup. This
issue was also observed with latest
plymouth package (0.9.0-9) in wheezy.

Exceptions: Plymouth Splash screen is working properly if I install Debian
Jessie in dual boot environment or on physical machine

Probable Problem: Looks like there is some problem/Limitations with "Emulation
of Graphics Card in VMware or Virtial Box", as I have tested this thing both
Intel and Nvidia Graphics cards but it doesn't work on VMware and Virtual Box,
However it does work when installed in dual boot environment ( As real graphics
card would be available )

I am configuring plymouth using instructions on debian's plymouth page.

Dear Maintainer ,

To elaborate further about this issue, In my case If I select any theme such as JOY or SPACE FUN, it should be displayed at boot time, but instead three squares are coming in place of exact theme.

Thanks and Best Regards
Tejendra

Dear Maintainer,

I had communication with Virtual Box folks and according to them there is dependency in Jessie or in plymouth which requires KMS driver for the boot splash.

Is it a desired behaviour latest version of Plymouth as the previous version of Plymouth (0.8.5.1-5) was working perfectly on virtual environment ?

For Reference https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/14503

Thanks and Best Regards
Tejendra

Are you still able to reproduce this with a recent version of plymouth?

It it's the case, could you please add plymouth.debug to the kernel
cmdline and then attach the /var/log/plymouth-debug.log file to this
bug-report?

Dear Maintainer

Yes the issue still persists. I have checked it with latest stable version of Plymouth available in Jessie (0.9.0-9) and latest version of Plymouth available in sid (0.9.2-3)

Please find attached the log files for both the versions of Plymouth. (I have tested it with virtual box Version 5.0.10 r104061)

Thanks and Best Regards
Tejendra
