Dear Maintainer,

SDDM offers a "failsafe" session. Selecting that session and logging in makes SDDM freeze.
(So, rather ironically, "failsafe" fails.)

The log says:

  Invalid session "/usr/share/xsessions/failsafe.desktop"

And indeed no such file exists, nor could I find a file with that name anywhere with apt-file.
I can't tell why SDDM even offers that session.
