Dear Maintainer,

currently iceweasel-l10n-de recommends
 myspell-de-de | myspell-de-at | myspell-de-ch

In the meantime there exist directories hunspell-de-de, hunspell-de-at
and hunspell-de-ch, which are based on the same source a the myspell
dictionaries but are build some functional extensions of the huspell
dictionaries, so the hunspell dictionaries should always be preferred
over the myspell ones (if the calling program supports hunspell, which
iceweasel should do for ages now).

So I'd suggest to recommend on
 hunspell-de-de | hunspell-de-at | hunspell-de-ch

I (as the maintainer of all these myspell-de-* and hunspell-de-*
dictionaries) think about completely remove the myspell-de-*
dictionaries, since currently all programs in the meantime should
support the hunspell variants, which gives the user a better
experience.

A little patch for debian/control is attached.

Tschoeeee

Dear Maintainer,

This bug concerns all languages, not just German.
Also, wouldn't it be better to recommend
hunspell-dictionary-?? | myspell-dictionary-??,
(or just hunspell-dictionary-??), rather than a per-language
variant | variant | variant ... ?

Cheers,
Itaï.

hunspell is the preferred spellchecker for many European languages,
because it handles accents and umlauts better than myspell. The
task-german-desktop recommends the dictionaries hunspell-de-de,
hunspell-de-at and hunspell-de-ch.

hunspell is also used by LibreOffice, and the package firefox-esr
notably depends on libhunspell-1.3-0.

But whenever I install the German localization firefox-esr-l10n-de, it
wants to remove all hunspell dictionaries and install the corresponding
myspell dictionaries instead. This would actually be a regression.

In aptitude, I always have to cancel the removal and leave the
dependencies of the package firefox-esr-l10n-de "unresolved". Of cause,
the dictionaries are only recommended; but aptitude and apt-file are
usually set to install all recommendations.

So it would be a much better choice, if the package firefox-esr-l10n-de
would recommend the hunspell dictionaries hunspell-de-de,
hunspell-de-at, and hunspell-de-ch instead, just like task-german-desktop.

Right. Under the assumption that myspell is replaced by hunspell, the
same change should occur in firefox. As of today, it is still not the case.
