This is a compositor library for Wayland.

Wayland is a computer protocol that specifies the communication between
a display server (called Wayland cimpositor) and its clients. It aims to
replace X protocol soon(r).


Currently only weston is packaged in Debian, this should allow easier
packaging/development for window managers that depend
on this library (among others an almost drop-in replacement for i3).

It is a requirment for the following window managers:
  * orbment - Modular Wayland compositor
  * ocaml-loliwm - Translation of loliwm to OCaml
  * sway - i3-compatible window manager for Wayland
  * way-cooler - customizeable window manager written in Rust

There are bindings for the following languages:
  * ocaml-wlc - OCaml (experimental)
  * go-wlc - Go
  * rust-wlc - Rust

Similar projects:
  * swc - A library for making a simple Wayland compositor
  * libwlb - A Wayland back-end library
  * libweston - Weston as a library

The official name is "wlc" but wlc name is taken by another package
not related to this one.

Hello,

I have made a few prototype packages and seems to be not that difficult.
There are a few issues however:
1) in the latest released version it does not seem to detect the installed
wayland-protocols package and instead uses the one bundled with it but it
is fixed in master
2) libchck is not packaged for debian thus it must be included in the
source package
3) I have not taken the time to make shlib definitions yet
4) While the whole libwlc/sway seems to mostly work it has a few show
stopping bugs that propably should be addressed first before even thinking
about <testing>

May I ask why do you ask? Do you wish to help with packaging/developing it?
Or are you just hoping to use it?

Yeah, I don't think it warrants its own package just yet.

Sure, usually one of the later things.

I'm currently interested in way-cooler as well (not in any way stating
I'm going to package that one, though).

Are you aware of any specific libwlc bugs?

I'm a DD and could help you package the library and/or act as a sponsor,
if you wish.

Hallo Markus,

seems like sway, the window manager I was targeting to package, is
(was) moving away from wlc
and I think wlc itself was marked as a deprecated project so I decided
to pause my effort until
everything is cleared up. I haven't done any tests for at least 5
months but the biggest one
was sometimes (I think in applications through Xwayland) when you
right clicked somewhere
sway would crash. I think that was wlc bug tho not sure.

I could restart the effort. Should be easy enough.
I could publish the git somewhere and send you access. Could you
please mail me a public ssh key?
I should have something that works® by the day after tomorrow or even
faster if you would prefer
to play with it during debconf.

Have you tried way-cooler at all? Is it usable?
