With ELAN a user can add an unlimited number of annotations to audio and/or
video streams. An annotation can be a sentence, word or gloss, a comment,
translation or a description of any feature observed in the media. Annotations
can be created on multiple layers, called tiers. Tiers can be hierarchically
interconnected. An annotation can either be time-aligned to the media or it can
refer to other existing annotations. The textual content of annotations is
always in Unicode and the transcription is stored in an XML format.

ELAN provides several different views on the annotations, each view is connected
and synchronized to the media playhead. Up to 4 video files can be associated
with an annotation document. Each video can be integrated in the main document
window or displayed in its own resizable window.

ELAN delegates media playback to an existing media framework, like Windows Media
Player, QuickTime or JMF (Java Media Framework). As a result a wide variety of
audio and video formats is supported and high performance media playback can be
achieved.

ELAN is written in the Java programming language and the sources are available
under a GPL 3 license. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor to upload the package "elan":

* Package name    : elan
  Version         : 4.9.4
  Upstream Author : The Language Archive, MPI for Psycholinguistics
* URL             : https://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/elan/
* License         : GPL-3

Below are the links to the archives I built.

1) Upstream source
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Gld7KY8di-OG1OTU4wU2w0Sm8

2) Debian files after building
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Gld7KY8di-QzJ1Z2F6ejZZbWM

3) Compiled sources + Debian files
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Gld7KY8di-YUxHSlVtaTF5YWs

Although I followed the steps from https://wiki.debian.org/Java/MavenDebianHelper
I'm quite sure that I didn't pack it properly. I got a lot of "This dependency
cannot be found in the Debian Maven repository. Ignore this dependency?" errors.

Regards,
nkr

You should publish a proper source package. You should use
https://mentors.debian.net/ for that. Please also read
https://mentors.debian.net/intro-maintainers before publishing the
package as it looks like you didn't follow the proper process for
packaging new software.
If your package depends on libraries not packaged for Debian you should
package those first.

There is another package in Debian packaged as elan:
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/elan

To package the linguistic tool ELAN, a different source package name
must be used and packagers must be careful that there are no files
installed with the same name as installed by the existing elan
packages.

Thank you,
