Hello george, thank you for your report.

The option is not available in the PPD for this printer. This is an
upstream issue which Debian can do little about.

The email for upstream is linux-printer@epson.jp. I will write and ask
whether there something technical which prevents the driver using the
rear slot as a paper source and if a future update will see this fixed.
I suggest you do the same and update us here. You are familiar with
the printer and are in a good position to put a good case for a change.

There seems to be no problem in newer versions anymore, so I am closing
this bug manually now.
