Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I don't know what led to the situation, but it was working a few months ago. The problem seems to be happening randomly to some people, as a search on the net shows. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I tried a few things that people suggest without success, like reinstalling related packages: sudo apt install --reinstall gir1.2-polkit-1.0 libpolkit-agent-1-0 policykit-1-gnome I don't know where do I read the following but I confirmed it with chatgpt. The user needs to be in sudo or admin group so that pkexec works. So I checked in which groups my user was: $ groups <$USER here> dialout plugdev users docker libvirt libvirt-qemu Then I added my user to sudo with: $ sudo usermod -aG sudo $USER I don't know if a reboot or a logout/login is need but, it is working now. * What was the outcome of this action? pkexec is showing the dialog requesting for the root password.
In general, my advice is to report new bugs for apparently new issues especially when the bug you want to reply to is very old and you are running Debian Testing or Unstable. In your new bug, you are welcome to include links to bugs you think may be related. … This sounds at least somewhat similar to https://bugs.debian.org/1101748 except that you're using LXDE instead of Cinnamon. Could you either report a new bug against pkexec or comment on that bug? Thank you, Jeremy Bícha
