Dear Maintainer, (I'm using Cinnamon, for what it's worth.) Starting Password Safe, and pressing Escape or the Close Window keybind (e.g. Alt-F4) at the initial Safe Combination Entry dialog exits as expected. After entering the passphrase, pressing the Close Window key combination also exits as expected. However, if the database is locked after it was unlocked (e.g. after the timeout, or by minimizing with "Lock password database on minimize" enabled), it becomes difficult to close the application. Pressing Escape or Alt-F4 minimizes it. Ctrl-q and Ctrl-w do not work. The only way to quit is by minimizing the program by pressing Escape or Alt-F4, then right-clicking the program in the taskbar and selecting Close, which is cumbersome, obscure, and unexpected.
Thanks for your report. I think that the behavior of escape is mostly correct, in the sense that it cancels whatever option is pending. That is, when you restore the minimized version, cancelling the window returns it to being minimized. And when you first open the program, cancelling exits since there's nothing to "go back" to. That being said, I agree that the keybindings should work on the password dialog as well. If you right-click the minimized icon, the menu shows shortcuts for ctrl-q and ctrl-w but neither of them work, and neither do the accelerator keys (e.g, alt-e for exit), even with the menu open. (Although, to be fair, I don't know how much of that is the program and how much of that is my desktop environment). This isn't something I'm prepared to tackle myself right now, so I'll forward it upstream.
