Package: lists.debian.org

Hello Listmasters,

This bugreport is for reporting myself for bracing the listmaster team.

Because Alioth will be gone in some near future I'm offering my help
to make that possible.

If OK tell more about the backend of lists.debian.org.

If not OK, also fine.
I'll close this bug and find other tasks inside Debian.

from the minutes of the Alioth Successors sprint Hamburg 2017:

TODO: can we prepare an automation for importing existing lists
(archive + subscribers; no settings) from alioth? <- formorer said
there are some scripts (procedural descriptions) already

where?

no, there won't be any kind of automation. Every list has to be checked on
its own.

The tooling I'm looking for is mailinglists that _passed_
the check "Is it a mailinglist that is worthy for lists.debian.org?"

In other words: No, I'm _not_ asking for import each previous Alioth ML.

Actually:
I'm asking which tools of trade the listmasters have.

Hi Geert!

I think what is meant there is that we (as listmasters) have scripts
to create lists; this creation can - partly - be automated with a
prepared list of new mailinglists. But this is still something we have
to create or update.

how many new lists would that be and are they all debian-related or
will they use another hostname?

best regards, Hanno Wagner

And I want to help with that.

 * currently there are 1384 lists on alioth
  * the most widely used list types:
    500 commits
    383 devel
    220 maintainers
     40 discuss
     35 users
     19 announce
     15 general
     10 bugs
  * the "commmits" lists functionality should be superseded by the
notification feature of the new development platform
  * "bugs" is superseded by the issue tracker
  * the list types "devel", "maintainers", "discuss", "users", "announce"
and "general" are probably acceptable for being hosted on lists.d.o
    service

Even if there will be only fifty granted requests
it does can sense to improve tooling.

I didn't know another hostname then lists.debian.org would be possible.

Please educate this wanna be listmaster.
