pkg-gnupg-maint@lists.alioth.debian.org currently mostly hosts bug
reports, but it is also the maintainer address for the packages
maintained by the GnuPG packaging team, and it hosts some discussion
about packaging plans and questions, like the following:

https://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-gnupg-maint/2017-September/006023.html
https://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-gnupg-maint/2017-September/005961.html

It also occasionally hosts user support and discussions around
coordinating CVE fixes for different releases:

https://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-gnupg-maint/2017-August/005924.html

I'd like to ask for a pkg-gnupg-maint@lists.debian.org mailing list to
replace the outgoing list on alioth. or, if the listmasters prefer a
debian-foo naming convention: debian-gnupg@lists.debian.org.

Short description:

Debian packaging for GnuPG and related tools.

Long Description:

This list discusses Debian packaging for GnuPG and related tools.
Members of the Debian GnuPG packaging team should subscribe, and
people with questions about packaging for GnuPG and related projects
in Debian are welcome to participate.

Category: Developers

Subscription Policy: open

Post Policy: open

Web Archive: yes, please.

If other members of pkg-gnupg-maint could follow up on this bug to
state intent to participate, that would be great.

This is one of the examples we will probably not accept, but we will discuss
that internally again.

thanks for the prompt response, Alex.

If you decide to not accept it, where do you recommend for packaging
teams to have team-specific conversations that are not specifically bug
reports?

should we adopt non-debian channels or private mail for those
discussions? Or is there some other recommended approach?

All the best,

I am not exactly sure about the best proposal yet. Do you really need a
mailinglist for that or would some kind of maintaineralias (via tracker)
work? We are currently working on ideas. l.d.o unfortunately isn't the right
place for such tiny (sorry) maintainer lists, our tools and manpower do not
scale well.

One of my ideas was to improve tracker.d.o and maybe provide some (external?)
service for archiving mails (similar to gmane) with hyperkitty (the mailman3
archiver). What do you think about it? Would the combination of tracker and
an archiver work for you?

Thanks in advance
Alex

no need to apologize -- it's true that the list is relatively small (a
half-dozen people contributing at most). I can also check with GnuPG
upstream whether they'd be willing to have just us use
gnupg-devel@gnupg.org for debian packaging-related discussion, which
might be easiest.

it sounds like it could work. I'd be happy to see an archiver like
notmuch be made useful too, though i don't have the time to maintain it
either.

The mix of Debian bugs related to gnupg and discussion on the packing or
use is for me, as upstream author, not perfect because I sometimes miss
important discussions which draw in bug reports which will anyway end up
at dev.gnupg.org if upstream needs to care about.

This I would be in favor of having a new mailing list.

p.s.
Sure, I can also change my procmail rules ;-)
