Dear maintainer, I have filed a bug report against a package that do not provide an empty extended description [1]. After that i checked the tracker page [2] and i noticed that the lintian warning was not emitted despite this tag is active (but doesn't catch anything ATM) [3]. I don't know internals of lintian, if I made some mistakes please feel free to close this report. Sorry in advance for the noise. Thanks for your work. retitle 880004 extended-description-is-empty doesn't catch debug packages
thanks
Hi s3v,
Thanks for the report. I note that these are -dbg packages. From
the source:
# Ignore debug packages with empty "extended" description
# "debug symbols for pkg foo" is generally descriptive
# enough.
In addition, these -dbg packages should disappear "soon" due to automatic
debug packages:

Not at all! Well spotted - please keep looking for other problems :)
Regards,
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, this makes sense. This issue was spotted after attempting to translate descriptions of binutils *-dbg packages by using DDTSS. Packages with empty extended description are not handled properly by DDTSS and fetching them causes some troubles (translation interface is quite broken). For reference, see [1] and [2] (login required). Maybe the assumption that packages with empty long description would never reach the archive was made. I clone&reassign this bug so that @l10n-devel folks will be informed about this problem. I will do it (after digging more in deep before opening something else :) ). Thanks again!
