Test Case
========
From GNOME Shell, open the Applications Overview and click the Show
Applications button to see the list of apps. Currently, LibreOffice
takes up a whole row on my computer (6 icons) which seems excessive
with GNOME Shell's current design.

Proposal
======
I suggest that we do like Fedora and hide the LibreOffice Start Center
and LibreOffice Math.

Instead of opening a Start Center, it makes more sense for a user to
just open the app they want directly.

I don't think users want to create a mathematical formula just to
create one, but to insert into a document so it makes more sense to
start Math from within the other app. (Obviously, with an app used by
as many people as LibreOffice, you can find a few people who use any
feature, but how common is it?)

If for some reason, you end up deciding to only make the change for
one of the two .desktops, please go ahead and do at least that.

Implementation
===========
There are several ways to do this.

1. Add NoDisplay=true to both .desktops

2. Or, Add NotShowIn=GNOME; to both desktops

3. Or, Split the .desktop and associated AppStream metadata to a
separate binary package that can be optionally installed. Someone
would need to write the AppStream file for Start Center. This is
really nice because anyone can easily either have the .desktop
launcher or not without needing to manually edit any text files.

4. Or, Add an app folder for all the LibreOffice .desktops. This is
what Pop!_OS 17.10 did (Pop is a new Ubuntu flavor from System76). If
we wanted this, I think we'd want to implement this in the gnome-menus
package.

For reference, this issue was originally filed as

With that I agree. Above that you wrote:

Or by calling "libreoffice". Which is - guess what - what
-startcenter.desktop does. :) And if people don't know what they want
and just want "LibreOffice" and then go to text document etc. from there?

That is already the case. the math desktop is in -math. No, it doesn't
belong (let alone because of NEW and the waste of whatever) in a even
more separate package.

Rene
