Description : ogon session manager and RDP server

The ogon project is an open source driven collection of services and
tools mainly written in C/C++ that provide graphical remote access to
Linux desktop sessions using the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). It
supports most modern RDP protocol extensions, bitmap compression codecs,
dis- and reconnection to sessions and device redirections. ogon is
compatible with virtually any existing RDP Client.
 .
Any X11 destkop, weston or qt application can be used as session. Due to
it's modular design it's easily possible to extend or add features or
 add new backends.
 .
The ogon package is part of the ogon project and contains the code of
the RDP server and session manager as well as protocol descriptions and
 some command line (helper) utilities.
 .
The ogon project will be package under the umbrella of the Debian Remote
 Team.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know about ab packaged version of ogon (https://github.com/ogon-project (https://github.com/ogon-project), a linux Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) server implementation).

https://launchpad.net/~linux-ng/+archive/ubuntu/ogon (https://launchpad.net/~linux-ng/+archive/ubuntu/ogon)

Maybe this can make it into Debian and helps to get ogon usable for a wider public.

Bye,
 Marcel

Hi Marcel,

I plan to work on Ogon as my next (unpaid) packaging project in
Debian. It is awesome that you have already wrapped-up the Ogon
components as DEBs. This will ease our day.

Main question is, if you'd be interested in co-maintaining Ogon in
Debian (and consequently in all derivatives of Debian, thus in Ubuntu).

I guess, that Bernhard Miklautz (one of the upstream authors) will
also be around for tricky issues and as our contact point on the
upstream side.

The packaging should ideally happen in the Debian Remote Maintainers'
namespace on salsa.debian.org [1]. Have you used Git for doing the DEB
packaging of Ogon for your PPA? If so, could you provide access to
those repos, so I can pull them over to salsa.debian.org (GitLab)?

Furthermore, if you'd be interested in co-maintaining there are
several possible cooperation modes possible. I could be your reviewer
(and tutor) regarding Debian policy conformant packaging of software
(if you'd be interested in becoming a Debian Developer). We could also
cooperate in a cross-distro approach: I am responsible for Ogon in
Debian, you take care for it in one of its derivatives (e.g. Ubuntu)
with proper upload permissions there (a model, Martin Wimpress and
have been using for the MATE desktop packaging).

Let me know what you think!

Mike

Hi Mike and everyone else involved with this packaging project!

First of all, thank you for working on this, ogon looks like a rather
complicated thing to package.
I would like to ask what the status of this project currently is. Do
you think that there is any chance this could still make it into
bullseye? Is there anything you would need help with?

Cheers,
    Matthias

Hi Matthias,

Bullseye won't happen for ogon. There are some blocking issues where
upstream patches to third party projects are required that we don't
have yet in Debian.

I will look into doing the first uploads (hope that Marcel, who did
quite a bit of the heavy listing recently, is back then...) after the
bullseye release (or also during the freezes, possibly).

Once we have all the components in experimental and everything works
nicely, we can throw the packages on to the bullseye-backports archive
area and make Ogon available for Debian 11 users.

However, until beginning of February, I will be fully occupied with
the packages I already have in testing (some of them still need some
love).

And... Thanks for your interest!!!

Mike
