2 workarounds are to be found here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1645553

tested the disabling software compositing from MATE, and it does stop
the log flooding immediately. didn't try the xorg.conf solution.

thanks,
d

Dear Maintainer,

My log gets filled extensively, too. My workstation crashed that's why I was investigating the log
files. But I am unsure if it can be tracked down to xserver-xorg. Anyhow, I was expecting the log
to be smaller.

I would attach the file but it is too big. If you want to see the log please visit:

http://krähemann.com/Xorg.0.log.old.txt
http://xn--krhemann-1za.com/Xorg.0.log.old.txt

It is about 500 MB big.

Hi,

this is the upstream bug report:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/issues/68

There is some discussion about the implementation to be found here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/merge_requests/131

The resulting patch has been merged:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/merge_requests/193

It would be nice to get this backported to stable IMHO since running
out of space on / (as just happened to me) is rather bad... ;)
