   * What led up to the situation?

   Installing fresh minimal debian 9.5 netinstall and wanted to have a
   minimal lxde. A find that closed reported bug #760971 describes
   exactly what I experienced.

   I don't know enough to put panels and check if I can recover it.

   killing lxpanel gets launched again with a new PID so I cannot try to
   launch lxpnael withough --profile argument

   I tried to copy panels from /etc/xdg but it does not work but it
   could be that I'm copying things in the wrong place.

   I did an apt-get update; apt-ge upgrade to use the lastest packets
   available. Still not working.

Thank you for reporting that issue. I would like to ask you for few more
details if that is possible. First od all I would like to see output of
the command (when issue happens):

    ls -lR $HOME/.config/lxpanel/

Another this I would like to know is content of few environment variables
such as XDG_CONFIG_DIRS and XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP

And last one thing I would ask you if your panel uses default command
line options from installed file, please.
