Dear Maintainer, W.r.t. most of the GNOME related packages, here is a patch. Thanks, Patrice
Hello Patrice Duroux, Rather than poking at this per package (and then having to revert it all again in each package), I think you should be aware of the work that has recently been done on debian policy and was merged for debian policy 4.2.0: https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.html#version-4-2-0 For full discussion see http://bugs.debian.org/459427 Next up would be to adapt these changes in debhelper, so that it would just "do the right thing" (without having to override the behaviour in each package). See https://bugs.debian.org/906827 I thus think your recently submitted patches (for this bug report and the others that where also filed recently) are misdirected and would better *not* be applied (since it's busywork having to pull them in just to turn around and remove them all again). Please also note that you'll probably have better luck submitting patches as merge requests on https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/ . Regards, Andreas Henriksson
Hi, Ok, sorry for the noise. It seemed to me to be careful in setting the severity to 'wishes' exactly for any reason (hidden to me) regarding progress in packaging rules and tools. And so sure I agree that it is even better to improve packaging tools than to mislead the packagers with those patches. My both feet were too much in the user camp! :-) Do you want me to close all those 'wishes'? Would not proceeding with merge requests be more noisy for you in this case? Having a look to those feeds that is not very clear to me what is going on (or have to) in Debian for this. So finally are you forwarding me to consider the following link? https://salsa.debian.org/debian/debhelper/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.rst Sorry again and thanks, Patrice https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.html#version-4-2-0
