If it cannot easily be fixed properly,
passing --no-parallel to dh would like work around it.

I will upload a package revision with --no-parallel for now. Upstream

Hi,

Repeating what I posted on bug 920408:

I've posted this on the mate-utils issue you linked to:

It doesn't have to use multicore. Going to the gsearchtool/help/pt directory and repeatedly saying
itstool -m pt.mo ../C/index.docbook ../C/legal.xml
will eventually cause an exception in itstool. So then the question becomes, what is this? an error
in the input data (that shouldn't cause a crash of course), in itstool, in libxml2 or what?

I've also opened an itstool issue on GitHub, containing my most recent findings:
https://github.com/itstool/itstool/issues/36

I have bisected the problem in the itstool git tree, as detailed on this github issue:

https://github.com/itstool/itstool/issues/36

Trying an earlier itstool version was suggested on another Mate bug report:

https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-utils/issues/210

So what's next? reassign this bug to itstool?

BTW, the pull request at https://github.com/itstool/itstool/pull/18 looks interesting.
A quick test of the copyNode fix therein seems to at least allow itstool to complete
(in a loop that ran 100 times). It may not apply cleanly any longer, haven't tried.

Hi Tanguy,

I am not sure if you are aware of this RC bug for itstool:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=919058

The impact of this bug is that several projects FTBFS during creation
of translation files.

The upstream commit that introduced this behaviour has been located already:
https://github.com/itstool/itstool/commit/d3adf0264ee2b6fd28b7eff7dec33501d6e75a7c

Can you work on this issue soon enough for buster? Or is help needed?
(Not that I have a clue about what itstool does, but well...).

Greets + thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I've just noticed this bug report:

https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-applets/issues/388

It's been closed, so apparently the problem can be worked around by
manipulating the XML. Of course, itstool still needs to be fixed.

So far, there is no response on either the RedHat bug or on the
respective GitHub issues. There is a new itstool version available,
but it only includes the fixes that we've had available as long as this
bug has been open.

Best regards,

Lars

I can reproduce this as well, randomly, while building debmake-doc.

(Changing affects because FTBFS bugs are better categorized as being
bugs in the source).

Once this is fixed in testing and unstable, please consider fixing it
in buster as well.

There's a patch here to libxml2 that purports to fix this bug:

https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/blob/884ef902190645863c97b29af5cfc2d4104c2078/srcpkgs/libxml2-python/patches/python3-utf8.patch

which has been linked in my original itstool bug report at

https://github.com/itstool/itstool/issues/36

I'll see one of these days whether applying it helps.
