When launched in a tiling windowing manager, there is a black rectangle appearing randomly in the title bar.
Moving the mouse will cause the rectangle to disappear-it looks like that it is related to the mouse position.
It happens regardless of the theme and the GTK2 config.
This only happens when Chromium is in tiling mode; it does not affect floating windows.

This should be fixed when chromium 73 is uploaded.

Best wishes,

Thanks, but I hope that the new version is still compiled against GTK2 in the stable repo.
I have submitted an issue before in #901021, and I am deeply concerned.
GTK3 is not an improvement on GTK2, but a bastardization.

Should be fixed in this version. If not, please reopen.

Best wishes,

The problem is still there in version 73.0.3683.75-1~deb9u1.
It looks like it originates from Chrome's new layout.

Sorry for this reply. I am on mobile because my workstation is under repair.

It looks like that the problem happens in the Windows version of Chrome (and Chromium) as well.
When I use a classic theme (in Windows 7, this means screen composition is disabled), the same problem occurs.
So it means that with the new layout, Chromium now expects a compositor. This is a very bad trend.
Not everyone use a DE, and you should not force everyone to use one.

I do not think that they are related.
