Dear Maintainer, After today's upgrade to 0.84.6, apt installed all these along with synaptic The following NEW packages will be installed: aspell aspell-en dictionaries-common emacsen-common libaspell15 libenchant1c2a libgstreamer-gl1.0-0 libharfbuzz-icu0 libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0-18 libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 zenity zenity-common The following packages will be upgraded: synaptic All that sums to 85MB more space. Why? Because synaptic pulls zenity, zenity pulls libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37, libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 pulls libenchant1c2a, libenchant1c2a pulls aspell-en and the rest. Please do something about it.
Now that synaptic was updated to 0.84.7 and it no longer pulls zenity as a dependency, its dependencies have dropped to the minimal ones, so this issue can be closed. I will open a new one on zenity, because its dependencies remain stupid.
Thank you! Yeah, I think its worthwhile to open a bug about this dependency. And it was a valid bug against synaptic, I was considering to write a small wrapper myself to avoid it but time is short :( Fortunately this is resolved now. Fwiw, I would maybe use a word slightly less negative than "idiotic" in the bugreport against zenity. Cheers, Michael
I agree, "idiotic" is a bit too much for what I wanted to say but english is not my mother tongue and I wanted something a bit more "strict" than "stupid" or "dumb". I will use stupid for the new bug report Thank you :)
I think it is time to close this bug. After all, it was not synaptic to blame but zenity. I opened the real bug report on zenity, in #942362. Thank you
Just a confirmation that the bug is fixed now, so that the debian bug tracker can close it.
What type of voodoo do I have to do on reportbug in order to get this bug closed? I pressed "yes" when reportbug asked me if the bug still exists in v0.84.8, like I did last time, and yet the bug is still open.
