Dear Maintainer,

This box is a amd64 one, and I'm in testing. The current packages amule and
amule-daemon, and some of the little apps in package amule-utils-gui, works
well here, with the following versions:

amule 1:2.3.2-5+b1
amule-common 1:2.3.2-5
amule-daemon 1:2.3.2-5+b1
amule-gnome-support 1:2.3.2-5
amule-utils 1:2.3.2-5+b1
amule-utils-gui 1:2.3.2-5+b1

libwxbase3.0-0v5:amd64 3.0.4+dfsg-9
libwxgtk-media3.0-gtk3-0v5 3.0.4+dfsg-9
libwxgtk3.0-0v5 3.0.4+dfsg-9
libwxgtk3.0-gtk3-0v5 3.0.4+dfsg-9

But this is not the case of amulegui. This app shows the initial dialogue for
input a password, and then it crashes with "Segmentation fault"...

I check any solution for this, and view that all amule apps, included amulegui
works well with the former version 3.0.4+dfsg-8 off libwx (I dowloaded from
snapshot repo and now I have them saved). I don't have here now, but I think
that the same fatal result was with an intermediate version 3.0.4+dfsg-8+b1...
So from 3.0.4+dfsg-8 to here, all the libwx versions crashes amulegui...

I make a debug trace of amulegui whit the instructions that reportbug shows,
viewing http://wiki.amule.org/wiki/Backtraces#Create_a_backtrace, and googling
a bit. I get a huge file of 14,8 Mb. I don know if it is useful. A big number
of lines are the same!!

I attached here the first lines, some at the middle part of the file, and the
last ones:

That's all for now. If you need the whole backtrace (I saved it) o if you need
to I made some more test, say me, but with good detailed instructions. This is
new to me.

Many thanks for maintaining this app. Greetings, Martintxo.

Hello Martintxo,
I am just looking at crashes of some random packages and
found your backtrace. Thats already a good start.
As I it looks like you had installed the package
amule-utils-gui-dbgsym maybe you could also install these packages:

    libwxbase3.0-0v5-dbgsym libwxgtk3.0-0v5-dbgsym libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym

That way the backtrace would contain line information not just
for the main executable but also for the .so files.
I guess it will point into wxWindow::DoClientToScreen [1] at
the top frames.

And yes, the duplicate lines are of no help, so ommiting most of them
is good, like you did.

And because it was not reproducible for me, you might add
which desktop environment you are using, and maybe note if
which theme is in use.

Bernhard

And run gdb for the backtrace in the same way than the other day. I now have a
gdb2.txt file of 23,9 Mb. And I cleaned it, cutting the duplicate lines. I
attached the clean file as gdb2-clean.txt. But if you need it, I can send the
whole file too (maybe compresed)...

thanks for your report, but i dont believe it warrants an RC severity,
so i'm downgrading to normal. I can run amulegui on an up-to-date
unstable machine, and if it was failing globally, i feel a lot more
users would complain.

Hello Martintxo,
your last attachement confirms we get into a recursion in
mwxWindow::DoClientToScreen in the suspected line [L3158].

Further it looks like this==m_parent at this state, so
this window is its own parent ?

I guess entering the recursion in that case is clearly wrong,
therefore following hack to line 3156 could help:
(Have not tested it, maybe to line 3230 too.)

-    if ((!m_useCachedClientSize || source == NULL) && !IsTopLevel() && m_parent)
+    if ((!m_useCachedClientSize || source == NULL) && !IsTopLevel() && m_parent && m_parent != this)

But I guess a proper solution needs someone with deeper
knowledge of wxWidgets.

Kind regards,
Bernahrd

Many thanks Sandro!!

I think that you are right. Maybe, you can close this bug report...

I make some more tests. For this, I download debian-live-testing-i386-lxde.iso
from 2019-09-02, and start my PC in live mode with LXDE. In this live system I
install amule, amule-daemon and amule-utils-gui (all in 2.3.2-5+b1 version),
and for depends there are installed libxw in 3.0.4+dfsg-9 version. In this
environment I can start amuled and amulegui without problems...

Then, in the live system, I installed icewm (1.5.5+git20190610-1), and logout
and login in icewm. In this environment amulegui starts without problems too!!!

So I copied the amule whole config from my HD to this live environment (with
the relevant changes for the new filesystem...), and now amulegui is crashing
like in my SO... So the problem is in my amule config, and really in the
remote.conf file.

In my SO (icewm), with the newer libxw installed, if I start amulegui with my
original remote.conf, it crashes. But if I backup and delete remote.conf,
amulegui works without problem, and creates a new remote.conf. Now, with this
workaround I'm running without problem!!

I see for the differences in the old and the new remote.conf, but I can't see
any relevant one (there are a lot of configs, and a lot of them are different
in the two files). So I can't tell you what is the offending one. If you need
my old and buggy remote.conf file, I will save it for a wile...

Many thanks for all your work. I'm so happy with Debian and its community!!

Greetings. Martintxo.
