to support booting a system from virtiofs.

Control: tag -1 moreinfo

Isn't this going to require more than just a module?  I think we'll
need a new boot method to support a root that's not on a block device
or NFS.

Sorry that I failed to actually send this reply to you:

Now in 2025, I would add that I don't expect to add significant new
features to initramfs-tools.  If this is still an open problem for you
then you could try using dracut, which is supposed to support virtiofs
root already.
