Dear Maintainer, when I start some application, like gedit, I wait 30 seconds, to open. From the terminal I see the following error Error creating proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.vfs.UDisks2VolumeMonitor: Timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24) thanks in order to help me.
Am 29.01.20 um 20:40 schrieb pipex07@yahoo.it: org.gtk.vfs.UDisks2VolumeMonitor is provided by gvfs-daemons, not udisks2, so this bug report is misfiled. It appears something is at odds with your dbus setup. Which desktop environment do you use? Do you have dbus-x11, dbus-user-session, libpam-systemd, gvfs-daemons installed? What's the output of busctl --user?

So you do have gsettings-desktop-schemas installed? Then I'm out of ideas why you get the crash. Maybe /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled is corrupt or not up-to-date. Dunno.

Does this still occur?
Yes, it does; but it has an indirect hard dependency on those schemas,
so they should really be installed already.
gvfs-daemons
-> Depends: gvfs-libs
-> Depends: gsettings-desktop-schemas
I tried installing gvfs-daemons with only its required dependencies
(without Recommends) on a test system, and was unable to reproduce this
bug. gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor.service starts successfully.
Does /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled exist?
If it does, please copy it to
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled.old for later analysis,
then try reinstalling the gsettings-desktop-schemas package with:
apt install --reinstall gsettings-desktop-schemas
and send the output to this bug address.
Thanks,

Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
I experience 30 second startup delays for file browsing in Thunar. This occurs the first time a file-browsing dialog box is opened in most applications. Thereafter it does not re-occur, unless the application is terminated and restarted.
The problem is traced via ~/.xsession-errors to a timeout of org.gtk.vfs.UDisks2VolumeMonitor.
$ systemctl --user status gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor.service
shows in part
Nov 05 13:25:47 escolar1 systemd[1200]: Starting Virtual filesystem service - disk device monitor...
Nov 05 13:25:47 escolar1 gvfs-udisks2-vo[4978]: No GSettings schemas are installed on the system
Nov 05 13:25:47 escolar1 systemd[1200]: gvfs-udisks2-volume-monitor.service: Main process exited, code=killed
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
* What was the outcome of this action?
* What outcome did you expect instead?
Renaming the compiled schemas and reinstalling gsettings-desktop-schemas recreates the compiled schemas exactly, but does not resolve the bug.
Uninstalling all gvfs-related packages does remove the thunar startup delay, but removes desired functionality as well. Reinstalling the packages restores functionality but the startup-delays recur.

Hello, I do not know if the following can help. So just in case. I met the same problem recently on a xfce4 setup. Digging in the bug reports I found this one that matches the same error messages I had. I finally solved my problem noticing that it happened after modifying the XDG_DATA_DIRS variable and after some some paths in that variable were deleted on my system. Removing the non-existing paths from XDG_DATA_DIRS variable solved my problem. Therefore, it might be worth verifying if all paths in the XDG_DATA_DIRS actually exit (or can be accessed). Best regards Pascal
HI after much research and knowing that the problem does not arise on new installations, I searched for all the old configuration files In the X11 folder /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ there were files from 2010 and trying to associate each file with the package they were installed from.. I found the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/20desktop-profiles_activateDesktopProfiles belonging to the package desktop-profiles I fixed it by deleting the outdated package desktop-profiles and finally it works without errors and without slowdowns! I hope it's useful for those who have old debian installations ;-) and who wisely keep upgrading bye bye Gianluca
I hope it's usefullly thanks a lot ! Gianluca
