I'd be hesitant to start such a project unless there was a concrete
problem I was solving. Upstream ships the "packages" that way as part of
the standard source distribution. It would be possible to use a more
minimal source distribution, but then things start to
break. Unfortunately I don't have time to devote to that kind of debugging.
