Description : Roguelike RPG with turn-based tactical combat and advanced character building

Tales of Maj'Eyal is a roguelike role-playing game, with tactical turn-based
 combat and advanced character building.
 .
Playing as one of the many unique races and classes in the world, filled with
stories from Eyal, exploring random dungeons, facing challenging battles and
developing characters with their own personalized blend of skills and powers.

I intend to package this game and provide any help to the Debian Games team.

Thanks!

Be aware that there are some files which are only allowed to be used
with the game, quote from https://te4.org/license

All the tiles of the "shockbolt" tileset, located in all the
"gfx/shockbolt" and "gfx/lore" folders are granted to use with the
  Tales of Maj'Eyal game only.

If those are needed, the game must go to non-free; if not, they must be
stripped from the source package.

Hi Tobias,

I was curious about this license and did a search in the source code for this
latest version available on the website[1].

[1] http://te4.org/dl/t-engine/t-engine4-src-1.6.7.tar.bz2

When searching, I found the compressed file [tome-1.6.7-gfx.team] with these two
mentioned directories: ("gfx/shockbolt" and "gfx/lore").

When unzipping this file, what I see are image files in PNG format. As shown
here in the attachment.

Whether these images in PNG format, even under the GPLv3 license by upstream,
can be considered "non-free"?

I don't know if you can help me, I have a small problem with compiling the
package.

The game has the file 'premake4.lua' available, I imagine that dh_auto_clean
should run 'premake4 clean' and dh_auto_configure should run 'premake4 gmake'.

But I'm having trouble adding the command in debian/rules to debuild.

Can you give me an example of which command to put "override_dh_auto_configure"?

Thanks!

Well Upstream says (at the link I posted) that those tilesets are "are granted
to use with the Tales of Maj'Eyal game only." You cannot ignore the information
on the website, it is supplementary at minimium to the source tarball.

If you want to challenge this, obtain (written) clarification from upstream if
those tileset can be uses outside of Tales of Maj'Eyal.

BTW, the tarball you have linked has the file "COPYING_MEDIA", saying the same.
This is the file:

All the medias located in all the "/data/gfx" folders are granted to use with
the Tales of Maj'Eyal game only.

Please contact darkgod@te4.org for more informations.

This is NON-FREE. Sorry.

(I can't help you with the lua problem, sorry)

Hi Nicolas,

My name is Carlos, I am a Debian contributor focused on the Debian Games team.

First of all, I congratulate you for your great project with this game.

So, I intend to help make the game available for official Debian, where the game
will have a bigger view of other GNU/Linux distributions.

For this reason, I opened a request with the intention of packaging this game,
where I received feedback from one of the Debian developers about the license
and the warnings mentioned about the files found in "gfx".[0]

[0] https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=953200

Making these files found in "gfx" non-free. Could you provide more information
about the reason for this notice, so that I can make it available to the Debian
project?

Thanks!

Closing these ITPs, as the one filed them is no longer active in
Debian.
