Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I have a laptop (System76 Gazelle) that I was trying to use UEFI and
nvidia
     -- NVIDIA 1660 TI or Intel 630

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

A1. I turned off UEFI and installed the (nvidia-driver and nvidia-
settings) package

A2. I first attempted an install using the backports which failed

B1. I then backed out and installed the normal nvidia driver for buster
which failed

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The laptop using installed the dual graphics (intel and nvidia 1660)
failed fully

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I saw several errors listed below:

     A. Sep 11 12:28:43 aa kernel: [ 82.939371] nvidia: module verification
failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
     B. Sep 11 12:28:27 aa gnome-software[1416]: failed to rescan: Failed to
parse /usr/share/applications/nvidia-settings.desktop file: cannot process file
of type application/x-desktop
     C. Sep 11 12:28:46 aa nvidia-persistenced: Failed to open libnvidia-
cfg.so.1: libnvidia-cfg.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
        Sep 11 12:28:46 aa nvidia-persistenced[16170]: nvidia-persistenced
failed to initialize. Check syslog for more details.
        Sep 11 12:28:46 aa systemd[1]: nvidia-persistenced.service: Control
process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

    * What should be the expected result?
      Using Ubuntu 18.04 I don't have a problem when I enable the system76 PPA
package and install the device driver. What happens in Ubuntu I believe is we
switch graphic cards by adding a blacklist to the nvidia driver and boot back
and forth between graphic cards. There is no BIOS setting allowing the pick of
graphics card to use. Any help here might be great as I would like to see if we
can use Debian fully with nvidia graphics correctly.

Here is the driver I see at least when not being used by nvidia:

lspci -nn | egrep -i "3d|display|vga"

Hi,

I don't think this bug is in any way related to UEFI.

That is "interesting". Why doesn't nvidia-persistenced find
libnvidia-cfg.so.1 which obviously is available?

Hi Andreas,

I am not sure exactly either. I do know the card should be a 1650 if I
recall correctly but we just fail to load the driver period. Next step I
might take is reinstalling with UEFI off.. I do know that using Ubuntu
20.04 the nvidia driver works and does not have any problems but it also
requires me to install the System76 driver. The system76 package being used
is the same as what is trying to be installed. The only tweak made is
choosing to blacklist or not the nvidia module in a menu item.

Let me know if I need to post further output for C.

Thank you!
