I got seven random WebKitNetworkProcess crashes (SIGABRT) at around the
same time. I have no idea how to reproduce these crashes. All of the
crashes have a short backtrace like the one below. If the short
backtrace below and the full backtraces attached aren't helpful, then
please close this bug report.

The backtrace suggests that the Network Process and the Web or UI
processes have different versions.

This can happen if you upgrade the webkit package while the browser
is running. Do you think this could have been the case? Have you been
able to reproduce the problem again?

Looking at my apt history log, webkit was upgraded about an hour before
the crashes happened. The crashes happened over about a minute. I don't
use any browsers based on WebKit, but I have evolution and liferea
installed and was probably using them at the time. gnome-ring/jami is
also installed but I wasn't using that, but it does have a webkit based
daemon running. I haven't had any webkit crashes since the report.

Ok, that's probably the cause then (I also see that you did a major
version upgrade from 2.28.x to 2.30.x).

time I extracted slightly more information too. If the information
below isn't useful, please close the bug again. I think the solution to
these crashes is probably for WebKitNetworkProcess to respawn itself
with identical arguments when an invalid message is recieved? Or for
WebKitNetworkProcess to just exit instead of abort and have the parent
process respawn another WebKitNetworkProcess with the new binary.

Let me see if I understood correctly, what happens is that you upgrade
the webkit packages and then the webkit-based programs that were
already running start to crash, is that right?

Right, except there is a time delay before the crashes and I don't
think the programs themselves crash, just the WebKitNetworkProcess
subprocesses running under them crash, I'm not sure if the crashing
subprocesses were started before or after the upgrade though. If you
like I can downgrade WebKit and test this again to find out. The
crashes are because WebKitNetworkProcess receives an invalid message
that it did not expect (NetworkProcess_ContinueWillSendRequest).

Browser hangs and the console logs

(WebKitWebProcess:2): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: 12:46:14.244: g_dbus_connection_get_unique_name: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_CONNECTION (connection)' failed

(epiphany:7717): epiphany-WARNING **: 12:46:14.258: Web process crashed

Please note the last update on Stable was the 17.02.2023, the day it stopped working. This was 11 days ago.

Same problem on Debian Testing.

This might also just be an incompability on Epiphany after the lib-webkit-update, so the browser is the problem instead?
