Hi,
I purchased a monitor with HDMI audio recently and started using it.
However, the selection of HDMI sink is just broken. In the beginning it
works but I have to start the pavucontrol and select the sink
explicitly. But when the application finishes, and some time passes,
then the output becomes unusable. Means: in pavucontrol, I cannot see
any options (no pulldown menu) in the playback tab. In the Output
Devices tab, I see only one device called HD Audio Controller Digital
Stereo (IEC958). This actually looks like my mainboard device. But the
menu contain only one entry (SPDIF). This is plain nonsense, I don't
have a SPDIF output onboard. I have analogue outputs which I would
expect in that menu INSTEAD. And as said, no HDMI device there anymore
at all. But in the configuration tab, I see "GP106 High Definition Audio
Controller". The submenu there contains a lot of digital outputs, and on
of them appears valid (no "not available" remark aside). But this does
not help me, in the playback menu the HDMI sink is simply not available.
This behavior is very reproducible after screensaver was active.
I am attaching the pa-info and Xorg logs FYI.
Workaround found so far:
systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service
(and restart pavucontrol and then it suddenly works like nothing has
happened, the output selection menu appeared in the playback tab and it
contains the HDMI sink)
Best regards,
Eduard.
