Looks like upstream moved their VCS and is publishing new versions
(1.5.6 two months ago) while the Debian package provides an eight years
old version (for PHP code, that’s even a bit scary)

This was fixed upstream a while ago, so I'm bumping this bug in hopes that
the package can be updated. The dokuwiki package depends on this one and
is broken on the pages that make use of the library, causing some wiki pages
to become inaccessible after an upgrade to bookworm.

Is it possible to get this package updated to something compatible with
PHP 8? Latest upstream is now 1.8.0, released January 2023.

Hi I would like to see some progress on this as I use dokuwiki. I am
willing to help out but I don't know what
the resolution would look like.

Is it just a matter of re-packaging something more modern in a way
that avoids a particular issue?

I am certainly no PHP expert so it would be a fair amount of learning
for me to work on that if that is required?

We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
simplepie, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive.
