Could not be more happy than hearing someone is picking up this package
for maintenance.

I am using the package for over 15 years, but some limitations become
awkard. Upstream the source package can be downloaded in an Ubuntu VM
including the complete build environment. But even in this fully
configured build environment it does not build. So to see latest
modifications were made in 2012.

So, do know that there are some very enthousiastic and dedicated users
for Dia out here!

The package seems to build in Debian/unstable.

A few trivial suggestions or updates are attached.

You should probably forward the existing debian/patches/* that are not
specific to Debian, and see if the upstream project is active.

Efforts to keep the Debian package alive in the long run only make
sense if someone volunteers to "maintain" the upstream project, at
least in a minimal sense: collect patches and produce releases.
