ipp-usb is active, as designed. I suggest you read sections 13, 14 and

Yes, thanks.

Can you scan with

  simple-scan escl:http://127.0.0.1:60000 ?

Not one of ours, but an interesting data point.

new ipp-over-usb seems to be not compatible with libsane-hpaio (my driver)

That is a possible upstream bug in SANE for this device.

ipp-usb has taken control of the USB endpoints detailed above and
libsane-hpaio is unable to access them. This is a consquence of how
IPP-over-USB interworks with USB. It is not a bug in either ipp-usb
or libsane-hpaio.

Please install sane-airscan and give

  scanimage -L

Brian.

reassign 983349 libsane1

Good.

'scanimage -L' offers you three backends for scanning: escl, hpaio
and airscan.

hpaio can never work while the ipp-usb service is active. This is a
feature of IPP-over-USB. It is not an hpaio bug.

escl is capable of working with ipp-usb but does not. This seems to
be a bug in SANE's libsane-escl, so I am reassigning your report to
libsane1.

airscan is an alternative to escl and, fortunately, does work.

Thanks for your engagement,

Regards,

Brian.

Note that the "escl" backend got improved a lot in sane-backends 1.0.32
which got released recently. I have already packaged it for Ubuntu
Hirsute (21.04).

I think I had this backend already used with IPP-over-USB. If it does
not actively block IPP-over-USB in newer versions it can still be that
sane-airscan simply has more quirk exceptions to make IPP-over-USB work
on more scanner models.

Hello Alain,

This is incorrect. You are able to scan with airscan. A limitation in
the ENVY's hardware prevents scanning with hpaio. This is unavoidable
when ipp-usb is active. It is not a bug in libsane1, hplip or ipp-usb.

You should also have been able to scan with escl but were not able to
do so. This would have been a bug in escl at the time you made your
first report.

What we need to know now is whether the bug is still present in version
1.1.1-4 of libsane1 in Debian sid.

Bring your sid OS up to date and do

  simple-scan escl:http://127.0.0.1:60000

Check that http://127.0.0.1:60000 is correct using 'scanimage -L'.

Cheers,

Brian.
