Hello, today i've upgraded to the latest available version of konsole in sid, and i noticed that there's a blue bar on the very left side of the screen (i have it maximised, if this helps) displayed when text scrolls, either because the application running in the terminal is generating text (there's an example attached from reportbug for *this bug*) or because you scroll with the mouse. it seems to be either at the bottom or the top of the left side depending on which direction you're scrolling: it's at the bottom if it's scrolls down, and at the top of if you scroll up. It also varies in size (but i'm not sure what causes that) and it tends to disappear "after some time" but not immediately after typing some new text, etc. Needless to say, the bottom-left corner is where your eyes are on a terminal, and having this blue thing right there that keeps appearing and disappearing, it's extremely annoying (hence the priority). If it helps, i'm running konsole in gnome flashback mode. Regards, Sandro
Hi Do you have a version where this hasn't been the case? I just checked with 20.12.2 and the behaviour is the same. It is there when you issue a command on the whole length of the output. I see it on KDE, too. Thanks Norbert
Hello Sandro, hello Norbert,
this sounds like the feature "Highlight lines coming into view" [1].
There is an option that looks like it could be disabled in:
Profiles - Scrollbars - "Highlight the lines coming into view"
Kind regards,
Bernhard

Hi Bernhard, Indeed, thanks for the pointer. I don't remember having turned that on for my profile, but now I have turned it off. Thanks. Sandro, are you fine with closing this bug, then please do so. Thanks Norbert
thanks guys for the quick answer! that is indeed what was causing that blue bar: disabling "Highlight the lines coming into view" fixed it for me. as for closing this bug or not, it feels this feature is very buggy: if its purpose is to show the new line appearing on the terminal, it does not work properly; it does not show all the new lines produced by a program (see reportbug screenshot in the initial message), when scrolling with the mouse wheel, the highlight is pretty erratic. if you want to close this, i'm fine with it tho, but probably it'd be better to retitle/repurpose it to make this feature useful? Cheers,
Hello, I use Konsole 22.12.3 on Debian 12 and this feature works fine for me. My opinion is that this bug should be closed.
