As per kibi's request on IRC I'm opening this as a separate bug to make tracking
it as a distinct scenario easier.

This was detected while hunting for ways to trigger #987449

In order to trigger a lock-up, one does the following:

At the language selection screen, hit down-arrow until "Kannada" is selected,
  and hit Return.

At the next menu, hit Esc.

This displays another menu, where one hits down three times, and then Return

The screen then locks up.

I've tested the alpha images, and a few mini.iso images from snapshot.debian.org
and they all either lock-up or are lacking the sub-menu in question.

https://openqa.debian.net/tests/2396#next_previous

(the softfails are the ones that lack the sub-menu, and so cannot be triggered
with this test)

Cheers, Phil.

I'm afraid that I was misinterpreting the screenshots, because it was
typing 'down' and 'ret' in quick enough succession for it only to show
the previous menu item.

This test shows what's going on much more clearly:

https://openqa.debian.net/tests/2401#step/locale/11

(that screenshot is the moment just before hitting return, and locking
up)

Sorry for the confusion.

Cheers, Phil.
