Starting form libtiff v4.3 support for the LERC compression codec has been officially integrated into libtiff.
LERC is a very interesting compressor and it is gaining a lot o momentum recently.

Please consider to enable the LERC coded in the debian package for libtiff (v4.3.0~1 is currently in experimental).

Kind regards

Hi Antonio,
I would be very impressed if you can do it with a patch only.

OK, now the package for liblerc is in the new queue.
I suspect it will take some time to be accepted because the queue is
quite long in this moment.

Do you see any other issue?

kind regards

You upload it to experimental and not Sid. You will need another
upload. But then, I think it will be fine.

finally lerc is in the archive.
We finalized the symbol file and uploaded to unstable.

Please note that liblerc only supports LE architectures.
Is this an issue from your point of view?

I have prepared a very small patch for libtiff.
You can find it on salsa [1].
Please let me know if you prefer me to attach the patch file to this
ticket directly.

Doesn't build on s390x thus it will not migrate to testing; at least
it should be fixed.
Would be better if it supports all architectures. Is it hard to
provide BE support?
 Thanks, I will test it.

there is no regression.
If it is not the case I will need to change Arch: any to a long list of
architectures.
The problem is that LERC does not supports BE upstream.

I agree with you, but, as I said before, BE is not supported upstream at
the moment and an implementation could be tricky IMHO.

So yes, I would say that it is hard to provide BE support in the near
future.
