Dear Maintainer, It looks like that with the version of 91, Thunderbird removed support for Movemail accounts. There's no way to setup such account anymore with this version, and all already present account are removed without any info or warning. At least the mail stayed intact. I had to install the previous version (1:78.13.0-1) to revert the unpleasant change. Hello Mikhail, Am 02.09.21 um 18:05 schrieb Mikhail Morfikov: and what do you expect as further action? If you want to complain about the removal you need to address this to MZLNA. Debian is packaging what upstream is providing, some things might need some adjustment to be in compliance with the Debian project rules. But at least for Thunderbird and similar packages we do not re-add and maintain features we can't keep up to date in the long run. Following the bug report you pointed it's obvious that the user base is simply to small that it will come back in the near future. I see no work I or Debian needs to do here and will close this report by this email.
You need to keep the BTS within the mail loop so others can follow the conversion too! I see no gain to duplicate this information somewhere in Debian. Maybe, but I expect no return of this feature.
I know, I just miss-clicked the wrong button -- I think they should work on this instead of removing the useful features. :] Most people don't read the official release notes if they don't have to. So if there's no one who would speak about some important change at the Debian lvl, no one will even bother with the official release notes, and it's not just for TB, but it's a general rule. That's why the Debian news/changelogs files are so important. It's sad that people think in this way. But if TB wants to have less and less user base, I think it's on the right way. And we all know where it ends.
Hello, I disagree with the removal of movemail support in v91. I noticed it when upgrading Thunderbird in Stretch from 1:78.14.0-1~deb9u1 to 1:91.4.1-1~deb9u1: all my emails have disappeared without warning, and, after a downgrade, Thunderbird would refuse to work with the account touched by the newer version, requiring a manual intervention to save my emails. Clearly such a massive degradation of functionality cannot be pushed as a "security update", and IMHO does not follow the Unix spirit either, to be given a home in Debian. The developers are simmering in their own pot, but they need to hear feedback from users sometimes. Now this feedback is suppressed by a collective Debian middleman, accepting upstream changes and force-feeding them to the Debian fans. I use the fetchmail tool for fetching my emails. It can be rapidly invoked from a script or a key combination, without having to launch a rather slow Thunderbird every time, when it is not known if there is new mail coming. This also integrates important emails created by various local system processes, such as installers. Best regards, Vladimir
What the hell??????????? NOBODY uses icedove for looking at their localhost mail???? That's a whole lotta BS. I use it EVERYDAY to monitor system activity, errors, firewall, etc, etc. all root sys messages. Who is the genius that decided to REMOVE this support in version 91.4.1?? I'm on Debian Stretch still on this box. I can't believe that mozilla broke thunderbird *again*. sigh. Somebody really f'd up this time. Mike Washougal, WA. USA
