Hello,

thank you for maintaining scrot!

When selecting an area with scrot -s, the selection rectangle doesn't
always get erased as the rectangle is moved, resulting in a dirty
screenshot. See example attached.

Thanks for your message. However, this behavior is not a specific
issue in scrot but in some window managers. The Gimp produces the same
effect when capturing an area in KDE/Plasma in some scenarios (Gimp:
File > Create > Screenshot > Select a screen area).

There are 2 workarounds to solve this problem. The safest one that should work:

scrot --select --freeze

Or using another selection mode:

scrot --select --line mode=edge

But this last one does not behave correctly with some CWM.

it looks like both the workarounds that you suggested are working
(window manager is xfwm4).

I guess scrot did all it could to manage the situation, and I wonder if
the bug should just be closed or reassigned to xfwm4

This is a bit of a complicated decision because several WM have
similar problems. Maybe it is a problem in an intermediate lib.

Ok, then I'll reassign this issue to xfwm4.

Dear xfwm4 maintainers, this seems to be an issue that crops up with
some but not all window managers.

I am unsure and unable to tell whether this is a documentation issue for
scrot ("use -f if you get selection artifacts" with your WM), or an
issue in the window manager, so I'd leave it to you to decide.

Feel free to close this if you do not consider it a window-manager
issue, and thank you for maintaining xfwm4!
