Dear maintainer(s), The following template feels a bit weird for the somewhat special package that win32-loader is, but I leave it in this report nevertheless for some background. Can somebody please judge if win32-loader should migrate in the current state and take appropriate actions if so: contact ftp to process the package on their side and update bug 982838 (I wouldn't close it, but reuse it after migration) with the right meta info such that the bug doesn't block migration? If help is needed, please reach out to the Release Team. ==== Template ===== The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing and unstable for more than 60 days as having a Release Critical bug in testing [1]. Your package src:win32-loader has been trying to migrate for 62 days [2]. Hence, I am filing this bug. If a package is out of sync between unstable and testing for a longer period, this usually means that bugs in the package in testing cannot be fixed via unstable. Additionally, blocked packages can have impact on other packages, which makes preparing for the release more difficult. Finally, it often exposes issues with the package and/or its (reverse-)dependencies. We expect maintainers to fix issues that hamper the migration of their package in a timely manner. This bug will trigger auto-removal when appropriate. As with all new bugs, there will be at least 30 days before the package is auto-removed. I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if that version or a later version migrates, this bug will no longer affect testing. I have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and bookworm, so it doesn't affect (old-)stable. If you believe your package is unable to migrate to testing due to issues beyond your control, don't hesitate to contact the Release Team. Dear Debian-boot,
I didn't see any follow-up on this request. I had a look at the
changelog, it seems trivial. Is it worth doing the ftp-master dance?

Hi Holger, Shall we have an upload of this soon and do the ftp-master dance with this package to have it finally migrate to testing (#998353)? Paul
Hi, Paul Gevers <elbrus@debian.org> wrote (Mon, 21 Mar 2022 21:18:33 +0100): special package, we can judge different here. So no objections from my side against such upload. Another thought: Don't know, if it's needed in testing for a d-i alpha release? kibi is planning such alpha at some point, I think, so maybe it's not bad to have win32-loader in testing, when that day comes ... Just a thought... I can look into this, if wanted. However, I did not upload win32-loader until now, so I'm unsure, if I have upload rights for it (only a DM with some selected per-package upload rights here). When it comes to ftp-master: don't know if we want to engage ftp-master's time for this now, they are chronically low on manpower and time, I guess. (At least this seems to me like this: when I see how long it takes to bring a documentation-only package like debian-faq through new queue, they must be heavily overloaded :-(( ) On the other hand, Didier has removed himself from uploaders, so package might look a bit orphaned maybe? Why not try to do an upload-and-migrate round, to see how it goes? Huh, this mail is getting longer as you might have hoped, I guess ;-)) So, yes, I would say we go for such upload. I will see if I can get it uploaded, expect more info tomorrow. Holger
Hi Paul, Holger Wansing <hwansing@mailbox.org> wrote (Mon, 21 Mar 2022 23:57:10 +0100): [...] Just uploaded. I'm not aware of the exactly needed process, that needs to happen now for migration to testing (I guess, this is what you called "the ftp-master dance"). Is this "documented" somewhere? Could you take care of this? Thanks Holger
Dear Holger, ftpmasters, I don't know. I *think* the term is "BYHAND". Last time [1], I just CC'ed ftpmaster and the magic happened, so dear ftpmasters, can you do "that" again? Paul [1] https://bugs.debian.org/967048
Hold your horses. win32-loader is blocked behind grub2 now. I'm not aware of progress with bug #1001057 (in CC). Paul
