it would be nice if this could be upgraded to the current upstream
version (12.1.2).

Hi,

The package was split up in several packages. That's
why I did not update it.

Now python-irc needs a lot of packages that are not
part of Debian. This is what I understood.

‘python-irc’ version “15.0.5” declares many dependencies.

A quick glance at the metadata, and the dependency tree of indirect
dependencies, reveals that at least these distributions are required
to build, test, and install the version “15.0.5”:

* inflect
* jaraco.classes
* jaraco.collections
* jaraco.functools (>=1.5)
* jaraco.itertools (>=1.8)
* jaraco.logging
* jaraco.stream
* jaraco.text
* more-itertools
* more-itertools
* pytest (>=2.8)
* pytz
* setuptools-scm (>=1.9)
* six (>=1.7.0)
* tempora (>=1.6)

Some are already in Debian, many are not.

if I might bump this bug report.
Next week, the current version will be 5 years old, and it misses some
intersting features, like the support for asyncio.

I'm pretty sure there's a simple way to package all the modules needed
by the new version of irc.

Best regards,
Celelibi

The recent upstream versions depend on additional Python libraries
that are not yet packaged in Debian.

Thanks for asking. This is tracked in Debian bug#783396.

As described in that bug report, many new dependencies have arisen for
the upstream ‘irc’ library in recent versions.

I am creating new WNPP bug reports for the dependencies that are not
yet in Debian.

Those dependencies will need to be packaged before this bug can be
fixed.
